Seminar on Nanoparticle Toxicology Paves the Way for Safer Future

20 March 2024

Ottawa, Canada, March 19, 2024 – In a significant stride toward understanding the impact of nanotechnology on health and environment, Ulla Birgitte Vogel from The National Research Centre for the Working Environment (NFA) led a compelling seminar at Health Canada in Ottawa, titled "The Toxicology of Inhaled Nanoparticles and Examples of Risk Assessment and Regulation". The event saw an enthusiastic participation of 80 individuals, comprising regulators, scientists, and students, all keen on exploring the nuances of nanoparticle toxicology.

The seminar underscored the pivotal role of emerging nanotechnologies and their regulatory challenges, addressing the critical need for advanced risk assessment methods. Vogel's insights into the toxicology of inhaled nanoparticles provided a comprehensive overview, fostering a rich dialogue among attendees on the evolving landscape of nanomaterial safety and regulation.

This gathering gains further significance in the context of the nanoPASS project, an ambitious initiative aimed at revolutionizing the prediction of nanomaterial-induced long-term adverse outcomes. nanoPASS, with its goal to develop and validate a technology for resource-efficient, animal-free prediction models, aligns closely with the themes discussed at the seminar.
